Family-Owned. Customer-Focused. Community-Driven.

Since 2016, we’ve built our reputation on honest work, trusted relationships, and treating every customer like part of the Garrett’s family.

Our Story

Garrett’s Automotive opened in Richmond in 2016 with a simple goal of providing value-oriented maintenance and repairs without the pressure, upsells, or impersonal service found at many modern shops. Inside our office hangs a plaque that reads, “Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.” That’s the heart behind everything we do.

Our Approach to Honest Automotive Care

We believe in fixing rather than replacing whenever possible. We prioritize transparency, honest recommendations, and long-term customer relationships. Financing options through partnered vendors are available because everyone deserves safe, reliable transportation.

What Sets Our Richmond
Shop Apart

We take the time to understand your needs, explain your options, and recommend only what is truly required. Our technicians work across all makes and models and even more than just your everyday car so we can be your go-to shop for every vehicle you rely on.

Meet the Team

Scott’s passion for tearing apart and fixing things dates back to when he started taking apart clocks, toys and just about anything he could get his hands and tools on as a kid. Meanwhile, his unwavering belief that human relationships—and not just car repairs—should be the focus of automotive services comes in part from his parents. (His mother served as a substitute teacher, while his father was a Methodist minister.) After more than 20 years of service in franchised operations, when Scott felt that “things were getting lost” and that good, honest repairs were giving way to corporate interests, he decided it was time to set things back to the way they’re meant to be by opening his own business.

With years of experience in accounts receivable and accounting, Joyce is the clockwork that keeps Garrett’s books in ship-tight shape. Meanwhile, she doesn’t hide away in her office crunching numbers. Her smile and infectious personality are often the start of every service. That attitude comes from a strong belief that no customer should have to walk into a business and wait to be greeted. For Joyce, every visit represents an opportunity to make someone part of the Garrett’s family.

He’s our resident Chrysler/Jeep guy — we stole him straight from dealership life. Known around the shop as the “dash puller,” he’s great with electrical systems, diagnostics, and tracking down the tough issues. Outside the shop, he loves participating in car shows and staying involved in the car community.

He brought us a 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe in 2024 for an engine and transmission install and never left. Since then, he’s become our honorary volunteer and unpaid employee, showing up most days to offer his help and plenty of humor. Fridays are his official “work” day.
